One of the main focuses this week was figurative language. Figurative language is the use of adjectives and adverbs to get a better understanding of whatever is being described. Figurative language is also the use of literary techniques such as smilies, hyperboles, and metaphors. This can further elaborate on the image the writer wants the reader to see. Without the use of figurative language, a writing piece will sound very boring and not exciting. By simply adding these literary techniques to your writing, you can hook your reader and create a more entertaining piece. Figurative language can be used in a variety of literature. We recently read a couple sonnets by William Shakespeare which were filled with examples of figurative language. He compared his love with nature and other objects using smilies and metaphors. This makes the reader think and imagine more, drawing them to be more entertained. |
